History behind the making of Goth Dolls: History of Goth Doll Varner goes Goth! Steve Varner, the talented sculpting machine behind Varner Studios, is keeping extremely busy this year. Best known for his beautiful resin sculptures (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lara Croft, etc.), McDonald Happy Meal toys, and past work for Playmates Toys, Varner has established himself as one of the top talents in the industry. It is the latter, that fans will be, treated to a plethora of new plastic playthings. These include his work on Playmates new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and their new Prozone MLB and NASCAR figures. Contract work aside, Varner is also expanding Varner Studios. New product on display at Toy Fair 2003 starred a new series of high-end resin statues entitled "Fairy Tale Pinups". We were able to photograph "Not So Little Mermaid" and "Beauty vs. the Beast". Not shown are "Little Miss Muffit" and even more very sexy Fairy Tale Pinups that are sure to please. Varner will soon have their website updated to show these beauties. If all these projects weren't enough on his platter, Varner debuted his new company at the show: Bleeding Edge, Inc. Tapping into the huge Goth sub-culture, Varner has produced 4 cutting edge 6" Vinyl figures (Goth Dolls, 5 stunning 12" Goth Dolls and 5 unique plush dolls that Steve has trademarked and copyrighted to call "Kindergoths". Steve's son, Stefan, a.k.a. the Gothfather, is actually the person who came up with this idea. As a high school student, Stephan sees so much of this style and felt it really needed tapped into. From that idea, Steve Varner utilized his staff to create this product line.

REAL ANCIENT GOTH HISTORY; Goths, ancient Teutonic people, who in the 3rd to the 6th century AD were an important power in the Roman world. The Goths were the first Germanic peoples to become Christians. According to the 6th-century Gothic historian Jordanes, the Goths came from Sweden across the Baltic Sea to the basin of the Wisła (Vistula) River. By the 3rd century AD they had migrated as far south as the lower Danube, around the Black Sea. During that century Gothic armies and fleets ravaged Thrace, Dacia, and cities in Asia Minor and along the Aegean coast. They captured and plundered Athens in 267 to 268, and threatened Italy. For about a century, wars between the Roman emperors and Gothic rulers devastated the Balkan territory and the northeastern Mediterranean region. Other tribes joined the Goths, and under the great king Ermanaric in the 4th century, a kingdom was established that extended from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea.
