Mythical Horses Greek Mythology History Pegasus, In Greek mythology Pegasus was a beautiful winged horse and one great flyer. It was born when Medusa and it had her head chopped off by the Greek hero, Perseus. Pegasus roamed free and wild without a mother. Many people tried, but nobody could catch her until she was drinking water from a well .
Bellerophon managed to slip a golden bridle over the Pegasus and capture the flying winged horse she tryed to fly away but couldint.
The golden bridle had been a gift from the goddess Athena. Bellerophon tamed Pegasus and used the horse during his adventures. One of these adventures was the slaying of Chimera.
Chimera had a Mythical Creature the head of a lion, the body of a goat and the tail of a snake.Witch It killed and ate humans.
Many brave men in that day and had tried slaying Chimera on foot but without any luck they had. Bellerophon used Pegasus to fly to the monster and kill it.
Bellerophon made the foolish decision to try and fly Pegasus to Mount Olympus heavens, according Greek mythology. Zeus quickly put a stop to Bellerophon by throwing off of the Pegasus. Bellerophon survived the fall but he was crippled prety bad.
As for Pegasus he made it into the heavens where he spent his days carrying lightning bolts for Zeuse. When the stars are out, you might be able to see the Pegasus' constellation which was named after him.
Winged animals aren't in the Greek history books. Most likely this myth of Pegasus, like the Sphinx, is foreign and comes from the East some were fare away.
